![]() It reflects the idea of using as few a number of good quality components in the most effective way that you can rather than seeking to tear the rule book up and do something new and unexpected. The 3510 is a further set of refinements to a recipe that Exposure has been making products with for decades. The Exposure also has a 6.35mm headphone socket which is a useful extra feature.Ībsolutely none of this is radical. Your cables will need to be terminated in a 4mm plug to work. In the great Exposure tradition, there are no raised speaker terminals. This power is made available to two sets of speaker outputs (these are both active all the time their function is not so much to facilitate two sets of speakers being used but to aid bi-wiring setups). Power is quoted at 110 watts into eight ohms which should be sufficient for most requirements. The intention has been to increase linearity and channel separation, reduce distortion and, like the preamp, ensure that there is plenty of smoothing on the power supply input. It borrows thinking from the 5010 Series components (which we have looked at as part of the magnificent Kudos and Exposure active system). The power amp has more significant revisions. This is a neater arrangement than the 3010 - and large swathes of the competition too. The volume control is on a conventional pot with a minimum and maximum travel and input selection is via rotary encoder that goes in both directions on the front panel and has direct input selection on the supplied remote handset. It is entirely discrete in construction and makes use of a hybrid power supply that is designed to be as quiet as possible around the gain stage (because any noise there will be amplified as gain increases). The preamp that collates these inputs is all analogue and revised from the 3010. The review sample was not supplied with these but I can confirm from past experiences that the phono boards in particular are excellent. The first input can also make use of plug in modules that turn it into a moving magnet phono stage, a moving coil phono stage (and these are separate modules so it is necessary to choose which one you want) or a small DAC board with 24/192kHz PCM and DSD64 capability. The AV input can be set to behave as a normal line input or with the preamp bypassed for use in an AV context. It is not as determinedly minimalist as the Musical Fidelity M2si - the all time champion of does exactly (and only) what it says on the tin style minimalism - but there is not that much in it. You can in fact amplify six things that have RCA outputs. It’s perfectly normal for copy to sail past 1,000 words before I’m even anywhere near the point where I tell you what it sounds like. A short walk and maybe a cup of tea is needed before I dive into the dense and intimidating feature sets of some of the products that have sat in my equipment rack of late. Sometimes, when I embark on the ‘what it does’ section of these reviews of modern integrated amplifiers, I need to mentally prepare myself. Can this straightforward amplifier cut it in a world where the competition can do all manner of clever and innovative things? Is it really better than one of the finest amps of the last twenty years and is it the device you need when there are so many talented and transcendent options available in the same price point? It’s time to find out. Happily, the newness of the 3510 means I can review it and here it is. You will have to take my word for the 3010’s greatness. It lurked for years on the list (and there is a list) of things that aren’t new but I feel would benefit from review here. Great integrated amps you could buy for quasi sensible money. ![]() None of that altered the not inconsequential detail that the 3010 was (still is in fact), one of the The 3510 replaces the long running 3010 which was also a conventional, class AB based integrated amplifier with a largely traditional specification. It has made some fabulous products in that time but it is rare to call any of them truly radical. Exposure has decades of experience under its belt. The thing is, this should not be a surprise. If we place credence in the notion that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, the Exposure is the anti NAD C 399. As we shall cover, if you are looking for new topologies, exciting spreads of inputs and other surprise and delight features, you have come to the wrong place. It is in fact, one of the most outwardly traditional integrated amps I have tested in quite a while.
