As a therapist at Great Lakes Bay Health Center her mission is to validate her clients’ strengths, abilities and call out their purpose to help them achieve a strong and confident identity of self. She utilizes resources from CBT, DBT, reality therapy, mindfulness and motivational interviewing. The foundation of her treatment approach is a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients through unconditional positive regard, trust and creating a safe space for clients. She specializes in depression, self-esteem, body image, grief & loss, anxiety, eating disorders, anger, stress management and spiritual trauma. She has worked in various settings including the school system, inpatient psychiatric centers (adult, geriatric and children/adolescents) and the ER and hospital setting. She also holds a Master’s of Divinity degree from Regent University. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling along with a certificate in Trauma Studies from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Kerre is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 6 years of experience. “Because our true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance”. Jakie believes self-care is the greatest way of which we can be the best version of ourselves, and she accomplishes this by reading books offering self-fulfillment, with her favorite author being Brene’ Brown. Jakie enjoys spending time with her family, which now includes her first grandchild! Hobbies also include kayaking, biking, walking, attending concerts and Broadway shows and traveling as much as possible. She is passionate about serving this population, and has a goal of improving the well-being of every patient she encounters. Jakie chose the area of Psychiatry as a way to give back to the underserved community, as there is such a great need at this time. She truly enjoys working for GLBHC, and would entrust any clinician here, to care for her family members. Prior to being employed at GLBHC, Jakie worked for a psychiatric Consult and Liaison practice in an inpatient setting. She joined the Great Lakes Bay Health Centers team as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2021, and has a special interest in women’s mental health, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. She worked as a Labor and Delivery RN for nearly 18 years, meanwhile obtaining her Masters of Nursing degree in 2019, with a specialization in Psychiatry/Mental Health. Jakie, PMHNP, has been a clinician in the nursing field since 2002. The services provided are sensitive to the needs of the community, are not based on ability to pay and are offered without regard to criteria such as race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity. Psychological evaluations and medication management provided by a behavioral health psychiatrist may also be incorporated into the patient’s care.
